Internet and Social Media Policy

Public discussion of company business and affairs and contact with media channels is prohibited. Any contacts with the media regarding information should be addressed by authorized personnel only. Any further contact, if any, shall only be made through prior authorization with the Chairman / Managing Director.

Managing Director (Mumbai office) will be Company's Media Spokesman. He may delegate this authority to another manager at his discretion depending on the circumstances. In the absence of Managing Director, General Manager (Q&S) shall be the alternate media spokesperson.

If approached by any external agency, individual for any company information or details of activities, employees are expected to direct such enquiries to the Managing Director. Any unauthorized media contact or public discussion by any employee will be dealt sternly.

The Company recognizes that its seafarers would have a more satisfying workplace on board when there the facility to stay in touch with family and friends through the Internet or social media.

The use of the internet and social media can pose significant risks in the event of inappropriate behaviour and the Company and individuals can suffer a loss of reputation as a result. Accordingly, all seafarers shall comply with the following:

  • Internet access is a privilege provided by the Company. The Master is authorized to restrict or suspend internet access for any seafarer, without

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Use of social media during watch-keeping and working hours, or to use the internet or social media at a time or in a manner that affects rest hours and safety at sea.
  • Access to sites that contain obscene, hateful, inciteful, pornographic, unlawful, violent or otherwise illegal material.
  • Posting confidential Company information, or any information that may jeopardize the safety, security or reputation of the vessel, crew, other employee or the Company.
  • Posting Company-specific information, Company logo, photographs of any part of the vessel without the written consent of the Company.
  • Photographs, comments or responses to rumours relating to an incident or the facts around such incident.
  • Comments causing harm to the reputation or causing loss or damage to the Company and its clients.

Users who violate the provisions outlined in this policy will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including immediate dismissal without notice. In addition, any inappropriate internet use that involves a criminal offense will result in legal action.

Personal Mobile/Smart phones/Tablets are strictly prohibited during working hours and watch keeping, as they cause distraction to focus on the task and situational awareness, with severe risk of safety of personnel and environment, safe operation of ship and its equipment.
